Donald's Blog

This old house was only a few blocks from the state Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin. All the neighborhood cats lived in the basement during the winter. The house has long since been torn down, but in 1972 there were AR2ax speakers in the front room, and a lot of good music was heard there.

Qualifications

Standing behind a till last night, there was an occasional moment to take a breath (it was a weeknight after all) and I idly picked up a book on display by a Dr Michael Savage. According to the blurbs on the jacket, he has master's degrees in medical botany and medical anthropology, and a PhD in epidemiology and nutrition sciences, which no doubt qualifies him to tell us, says the front flap, that "Obama is transforming us into a second-class nation, with communists and islamists given free reign..."
Communists?? Are they still around? Haven't heard anything about them for ages. There's not even a red under my bed anymore. And only the Islamists have killed more Muslims than Obama. But Dr Savage has written 27 books, it says here. His latest one is called... Aw, I forgot to write that down. But I'm sure that if you read one you've read them all.

Taking a break

We're going away for a few days -- Ethne has to give a lecture in Williamsburg Virginia so we're taking our lazy way down there and visiting friends along the way. I know I had a generously filled LP of tracks by the Chuck Wagon Gang, a country gospel close-harmony group whose sound I have loved ever since I first heard them on Randy Blake's Suppertime Frolic; I think the album came from the Country Music Foundation, and I wanted to make a copy of it for a friend, but I looked for it for an hour yesterday and couldn't find it. I've got to get out of this basement.
The time is drawing near when I will break out and buy myself an iPad so I can toot my horn from anywhere. But for now... I'll see you next week sometime.
