This old house was only a few blocks from the state Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin. All the neighborhood cats lived in the basement during the winter. The house has long since been torn down, but in 1972 there were AR2ax speakers in the front room, and a lot of good music was heard there.

In the 21st century I am just as opinionated as ever, and I now have an outlet. I shall pontificate here about anything that catches my fancy; I hope I will not make too great a fool of myself. You may comment yea or nay about anything on the site; I may quote you here, or I may not. Send brickbats etc. to: dmclarke78@icloud.com.

A strange day on Monday

Running errands all day, one thing after another. Ethne called and wanted me to come and meet her for lunch. There was nothing she wanted to eat in the canteen at Rodale so we went to look for a hamburger. Thought we'd try a newer place called the Burgery Company. Only in Pennsylvania is a fast-food joint closed on Mondays.

Went online to buy tickets to a Lyle Lovett concert next month. The ticket agency required me to open an account but said my email address was already in use and would not accept a password, so I got on the phone and was on hold quite a while. Finally bought two tickets for nearly $150 including "fees". Two days later the tickets still hadn't arrived by email; supposed to be within an hour. Come to find out that tickets to Longwood Gardens can't be printed out at home. What did I pay a "fee" for? Extra hassle?

What is to be done?

I was born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin; lived in Madison for several years, England for 25 years, Austin Texas for five years, Des Moines Iowa for six years. I have never lived in a place like Pennsylvania.
In the Morning Call on Saturday, June 15: Derrel R. Cintron, 18, shot two people at a party after saying, "I'll get it cracking up in here." Hector M. Massa, 18, used a scissor hold with his legs to choke his pregnant wife. Danny Safford Jr., 19, "a member of the Bloods gang", will do time for four holdups in one night. Self-confessed heroin salesman Pedro Alexander Vega, 24, is in prison under $75,000 bail after causing mayhem trying to escape. Nolvis Rivera-Garcia, 38, got 10 to 30 years for raping a seven-year-old. Dayrin Sepulveda, 18, was charged in the robbery of a Chinese restaurant; Denzel Holmes, 19, is in the slammer under $75,000 bail after a strongarm robbery; a man stopped for driving without a license assaulted the cop; two teenagers on bicycles were robbed of their bikes, one of them requiring stitches on his face; a man lying to cops about a carjacking had a stolen gun; a health worker was charged with stealing from a client...
All this is reported in the Lehigh Valley in one issue of the local paper. Today's paper has an even worse story, from the Harrisburg area: Dajuan A. Porter, 29, about to go on trial for a string of sexual assaults and free under a recognizance bond, went looking for one of the witnesses and stabbed to death an 87-year-old woman who had nothing to do with his case.
I'm a bleeding-heart liberal, a Democrat, a union member. I voted four times for Frankin Roosevelt in a previous life. But I tell you what, folks: maybe we should take some of these men out into the parking lot and shoot them? Would that concentrate the minds of the rest?
