Johnson, Sidney De Paris '43-4, quartet session with Bill Doggett '52; freelanced on East Coast for many years. Appeared in CBS TV The World of Jazz with Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, etc '57; also PBS TV's Just Jazz '71. Played mostly dixieland style in post-war years w. Eddie Condon, Red Allen, Bobby Hackett (Live At The Roosevelt Grill '70 on Chiaroscuro); but fluent and versatile veteran of the Swing Era, admired by young and old: master of trad. hot style and mellow ballad sound as well. Often with World's Greatest Jazz Band; Newport and Colorado jazz festivals; LPs with Buck Clayton's jam sessions, Ruby Braff, many others.
