Began on local radio early '40s; member of Roy Hall band '41-6, Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys '48; formed Blue Ridge Boys '50, changed name to Shenandoah Valley Boys '51; recorded for National '46, Capitol '51, Blue Ridge '51, Decca '52, later Mercury, Starday, others. Regulars on bluegrass circuit through to early '90s. Albums incl.
