FULLER, Blind Boy

(b Fulton Allen, '08, Wadesboro NC; d 13 Feb. '41, Durham NC) Blues singer, guitarist. One of ten children, went blind late '20s, but meanwhile had learned guitar; became foremost exponent of Piedmont blues style: more eclectic than that of Mississippi delta and with strong folk element. Worked streets, parties; teamed with Sonny Terry, Gary Davis, etc. Recorded '35--40 for ARC labels, Decca, Vocalion, OKeh. Compilations East Coast Piedmont Style on Columbia, Truckin' My Blues Away on Yazoo.
