DC; pianist/dancer in NYC '38, switched to electric guitar in group Cats and a Fiddle '40--41; with Art Tatum and Slam Stewart on the West Coast '41--4, group the Rocking Highlanders in NYC '44--7, touring into '50s, settled in Philadelphia, back in NYC '60. Tiny Grimes Quintet '44 with Charlie Parker incl. four tracks, vocals by Grimes on 'Romance Without Finance', 'I'll Always Love You Just The Same'. Town Hall concert with other guitarists '71 on The Guitar Album on Columbia; own quartet album Profoundly Blue '73 on Muse; also One Is Never Too Old To Swing with Roy Eldridge on Sonet UK, Some Groovy Fours '74 on Classic Jazz with blues pianist Lloyd Glenn (b 21 Nov. '09, San Antonio TX; d 23 May '85; A&R man, leader, one of the most successful pianists in R&B with own hits on Swingtime '50--51, worked with Lowell Fulson, others).
