GALLION, Bob

(b 22 April '29, Ashland KY) country singer, guitarist and disc jockey. Began in his teens working clubs in the tri-state towns of Ashland, Huntington, Ironton and Portsmouth. Joined Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper's Clinch Mountain Clan as featured vocalist on WWVA's Wheeling Jamboree; pursued solo career '55 signed to MGM Records with a style that blended honky-tonk and rockabilly scoring minor country hits; joined Shreveport's Louisiana Hayride then to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry. Writing for Acuff-Rose; joined their Hickory Records and had biggest hits with "Loving You (Was Worth This Broken Heart' and "Wall To Wall Love' '60-2. He went on to record with UA, Metromedia-Country, Gusto-Starday etc but no more hits; worked as disc jockey in Newark (Ohio), Mobile, Atlanta, Nashville, etc. Returned to Wheeling Jamboree '68-83 and worked duet team with Patti Powell (minor hit "Love By Appointment' '73). In recent years he runs a booking agency.
