GIBBS, Terri

(b 15 June '54, Augusta GA) Blind country singer. Child prodigy on piano, sang gospel in early teens, formed band in high school; landed five-year residency at Augusta Steak House '75 with band Sound Dimension; demo tapes led to contract with MCA '80. Debut single "Somebody's Knockin'' became big pop-country hit '81. She had some success on country charts, but she was perhaps too soulful for the market. Albums incl. Somebody's Knockin' '81, I'm A Lady '81, Some Days It Rains All Night '82, Over Easy '83, all on MCA; then Old Friends on WB. She returned to her gospel roots on the Word label, later on Morning Gate.
