HALEYS, The

British country duo, sisters Jo-Ann (b 5 Feb. ' 71, Bradford, Yorks.) and Becky Haley (b 5 Oct. '72, Bradford) Raised in mining village of Bingley, grew up listening to their parents' country music; teamed with Kevin Raymond as trio known as Applejack '88-9; worked as duo '90-3 making gig cassettes and their first CDs, and winning British Country Music Awards as Top Duo '90-2. Toured with Daniel O'Donnell '92. Formed four-piece band mid-'93; made album With A Little Bit of Luck '95 in Nashville; voted Best British Country Music Group at the Great British Country Music Awards '96. Same year starred at Floralia Festival in Holland. Distinctive and soulful harmonies and astute choice of material marks them as an act destined for the long run. Other albums incl. Sisters - Best Of Friends '93, Everything That Glitters '94, both on Tony Best Leisure label.
