HUNTER, Tab

(b Arthur Gelien, 1 July 1931, NYC) Actor, sometime singer. He was a champion ice-skater, joined the Coast Guard and became an established teen heart-throb, then had Hot 100 entries '57-9; by far the biggest was the first: 'Young Love' on Dot was no. 1 in UK and USA, a truly awful record, but he later redeemed himself, well cast in the film version of the Richard Adler/Jerry Ross musical Damn Yankees '58, though Gwen Verdon and Ray Walsh easily stole it. He was also very good that year in Gunman's Walk, an excellent Western, but subsequently made mostly B pictures except for Judge Roy Bean '72 with Paul Newman. He had a TV series '60, appeared on Mary Hartman, Marty Hartman '77-8.
