(b John Gotting, 11 February 1949, London) One-man band, popular on London and Continental pub-rock circuit late '70s-80s. He was in the band the Louts with John Spencer (The Last LP '78), continued often working with him. Solo debut G-Sharp, G-Natural '79 followed by G-Beat '80, including '(I Don't Wanna Go To) The Hippies Graveyard', Spencer's car anthem 'Everybody Goes Cruising On A Saturday Night'. Water Into Wine '81 was his finest hour, with traditional 'Skye Boat Song' done reggae style, King Crimson's '21st Century Schizoid Man' handled as Delta blues: the album included help from the Rumour's Bob Andrews and Bob Goulding, Medicine Head's Peter Hope-Evans. An acute observer of London life in the style of Ian Dury, notably on 'Suzie Was A Girl From Greenford' and 'Carving Up The Concrete'. Joint LP with Spencer Out With A Bang '85 was made in Holland.
