JORY, Sarah

(b 20 Nov. '69, Reading, Berkshire) Britain's "Princess of the steel guitar', a multi-instrumentalist, singer and all-round country music entertainer. A child prodigy; started playing steel guitar at six, also plays banjo, mandolin, guitar and keyboards. Joined Colorado Country '78, local Devon band playing clubs, fetes, social events, etc. Appeared at annual Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis MO at age 11; artists like Lloyd Green, Weldon Myrick and Pete Drake accepted her as their equal. Throughout teens a regular in Nashville and Texas where she played sessions, club dates and television. Formed her Sarah Jory Band '87, signed to Ritz Records '92 and emerged as Britain's top female country singer and entertainer. By this time a veteran recording artist with several steel guitar albums, beginning when she was 12 years old. Won British Female Country Vocalist of the Year '91-'96; New Horizons named Best British Country Album '93. Other albums incl.
