LANDSBOROUGH, Charlie

(b 26 Oct. '41, Wrexham, North Wales) Easy- listening/country singer-songwriter, guitarist. Raised in Birkenhead, Liverpool into musical family; played in Top Spots, early '60s Merseybeat group who became the Undertakers; studied music theory at college; worked as telephone engineer; joined army and after demob worked in various day jobs, playing clubs at weekends. He qualified as a teacher and gave up music, though writing songs in his spare time, returned to music part-time late '70s, recorded self-produced Heaven Knows; songs covered by British country singer Little Ginny, George Hamilton IV and Foster & Allen, who reached UK top ten with "I Will Love You All My Life' '83; continued with teaching profession while winning awards for his easy-on-the-ear music. Signed to Ritz Records '91; What Colour Is The Wind single and album '95 outsold U2, Garth Brooks and everybody else in Ireland: he quit teaching, a major act on the easy-listening music scene.
