Turned down offer from TK Records, whose boss Frederick Knight (former Stax singer) had written "Ring My Bell' for her; he gave it to Anita Ward for transatlantic no. 1. She signed with Cotillion, already home of other youthful soul prodigies in Sister Sledge; Van McCoy prod. flop debut LP Young And In Love '79; she teamed with ex-Mahavishnu drummer turned disco producer Narada Michael Walden: title track of Let Me Be Your Angel '80 made no. 21 USA pop chart, "Jump To The Beat', infectiously percussive track written by Walden and lyricist Bunny Hill was no. 3 UK. Her vocal exuberance, youthful delight in singing was reminiscent of pre-pubescent Michael Jackson (she later supported him on tour). With You '81 incl. no. 26 pop hit "Love On A Two-Way Street' (cover of no. 3 hit '70 by the Moments); Sneakin' Out '82 had R&B hit "Attack Of The Name Game'; Sixteen '83 incl. top 40 hit "Miracles'; Perfect Combination '84 (duet album with Johnny Gill) followed by I'm Not The Same Girl '85, switch to Motown for Take Me All The Way '86, Personal Attention '88.
