M-BASE

Macro-Basic Array of Structured Extemporization, a musical philosophy which began its development in New York City in the 1980s, its most famous adherent Steve Coleman. In the beginning, a collective sought to present all their own cultural and musical experiences, but Coleman has pursued the study of multinational cultural transference in the black diaspora for decades now, including languages and religions, and how they relate to music.
