(b 19 Jan. '33, Montreal, Canada) Country singer, guitarist and songwriter, longtime Opry favourite known as the Western Gentleman. Began performing in teens and joined radio CFRN in Alberta working as disc jockey, producer and engineer; moved on to TV with own live Town & Country show followed by CBC-TV show The Outsider and Red River Jamboree; started recording for Rodeo, London and Columbia in Canada with successful "Squaws Along The Yukon' and album Echoes Of The Canadian Foothills '62. Moved to Nashville '63 with own early morning TV show on WSIX; signed to RCA '65 and prod. by Chet Atkins with country hits "The Great El Tigre', "Juanita Jones' etc; moved to Capitol without further success; hosted own TV series Music Palace '69-72; toured Europe, Far East, Africa and recorded in German and Afrikaans; continues to tour, appear on Opry and record into the '90s.
