RATTLESNAKE ANNIE

(b Annie McGowan, 26 Dec. '41, Paris TN) Country singer and songwriter, long highly regarded by stars like Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson; David Allen Coe recorded her "Texas Lullaby'. She sang with cousins as the Gallimore Sisters; they won a state-wide contest and appeared on Grand Ole Opry. First LP was Rattlesnakes And Rusty Water '79 on her own Rattlesnake label (incl. "Good Old Country Music', covered by Patsy Montana); then Rattlesnake Annie And The Last Cowboy '83 made in Czechoslavakia for Supraphon, Country Livin' '85 on Rattlesnake, incl. duet "Long Black Limousine' with Nelson. Several tracks from this (incl. the duet) incl. on Rattlesnake Annie '87 on CBS: LP and single "Callin' Your Bluff' reached country charts in USA. About half the songs on her LPs are her own; she had received some wider recognition, but the album went out of print. She sang at Nelson's Fourth of July picnics; reverted to promoting her own recordings Indian Dream, Sings Hank Williams, Crossroads, Painted Bird etc; lived in Spain and continued to tour Europe and Japan.
