RED RIVER DAVE

(b Dave McEnery, 15 Dec. '14, San Antonio TX) Cowboy singer. Worked Texas rodeo circuit; took up singing and landed radio shows on WPHR (Petersburg VA) '35-6, WQAM (Miami) '36-7 and WOR (NYC) '38-41. Led group the Swift Cowboys, recorded for Decca, Savoy, Music-Craft, Sonora, Continental. During the war he scored with patriotic ditties "I'd Like To Give My Dog To Uncle Sam' and "It's For God And Country And You Mom'. To Hollywood; became singing cowboy in such films as Swing In The Saddle '48, Hidden Valley Days and Echo Ranch '49, plus more than 20 film shorts. Moved back to Texas late '40s and appeared on WOAI-TV San Antonio for ten years. Tempted out of retirement early '60s to record for Bluebonnet, also appeared on Radio KBER San Antonio '66-7. Albums on Continental and Bluebonnet long out of print.
