BOONE, Larry

(b 7 June 1956, Cooper City FL) Hard-country stylist and successful Nashville-based songwriter. Former amateur athlete, sports writer and substitute teacher. Moved to Nashville '80, played small clubs, gained writer's contract with hits for Don Williams ('Old Coyote Town'), Ed Bruce, John Conlee etc; signed to Mercury '86, scored several minor hits, country top ten with 'Don't Give Candy To A Stranger' '88. He released critically praised albums Larry Boone '88 and Swingin' Doors, Sawdust Floors '89, but did not make a major breakthrough. He joined Columbia '91, but remained better known as a songwriter. Other albums: Down That River Road on Mercury '90, One Way To Go '91, Get In Line '93.
