SESSIONS, Ronnie

(b 7 Dec. '48, Henrietta OK) Country-rock singer. Grew up in Bakersfield, making first recordings for small Pike label '57, novelty rock'n' roll versions of "Keep A'Knocking' and "My Last Night In Town'. He was a regular on the Herb Henson Trading Post TV show for six years, continued on TV after high school on such shows as The Melody Ranch. He studied veterinary surgery, but began recording for small lables like Starview and Mosrite, gained regional hits with "The Life Of Riley' and "More Than Satisfied' on Gene Autry's Republic label '68. Moved to Nashville, signed as a writer with Tree Publishing '72, recorded for MGM, charted with "Never Been To Spain' '72, minor hits "Tossin' And Turnin'' and "She Feels So Good I hate To Put Her Down' '72-3; switched to MCA for major hit "Wiggle Wiggle' '76, followed by Bobby Goldsboro's "Me And Millie', "Ambush', last big hit "Juliet And Romeo' '77-8. Dropped by MCA '80 and has hardly recorded since, but long recognised as a rewarding live act.
