BRADSHAW, Tiny

(b Myron Bradshaw, '05, Youngstown OH; d Dec. '58, Cincinnati) Singer, drummer, pianist. Majored in psychology at university; sang with Horace Henderson's Collegians, Luis Russell; own band, recording contract '34. Switched from big-band style to R&B mid-'40s; employed such young stars as Sonny Stitt, Charlie Fowlkes ('16--80; later with Basie for many years on baritone sax). Led band until suffered strokes in '50s, incl. USO tour of Japan late '45. Hits in '40s, usually incl. raunchy sax by Red Prysock, Sil Austin, etc. Three top tens in R&B chart '50--53: 'Well, Oh Well', 'I'm Going To Have Myself A Ball', 'Soft'.
