(b Fannie Borach, 29 Oct. 1891, NYC; d 29 May '51, LA) Comedienne, Ziegfeld show girl '10 to '36. Mostly sang novelties and dialect songs, but also known for torch numbers: 'I'd Rather Be Blue', 'When A Woman Loves A Man', 'My Man' backed with 'Second Hand Rose' all recorded for Victor '30s. Put on funny voice and played brat Baby Snooks on radio '39--51. Inspired title role of '64 Broadway musical Funny Girl, played by Barbra Streisand on stage and film '68.
