BYRD, Tracy

(b 18 Dec. '66 Beaumont TX) raised in Vidor TX; a modern honky-tonk country singer, performing in clubs while studying at Lamar U, Beaumont; later worked for a law firm and as a housepainter while playing dates evenings. Landed a regular gig at Cutter's nightclub in Beaumont replacing Mark Chesnutt, who moved on to Nashville and major stardom '90. Two years later Byrd followed, joining MCA and after minor hits made no. 1 with 'Holdin' Heaven' '93. Now firmly established as one of the young new traditionalists with Tracy Byrd '93, No Ordinary Man '94.
