(b 5 August 1940, Lakeland FL) Country songwriter. Played piano in various bands; to Nashville '64; with Marty Robbins '65-6, wrote his hit 'While You're Dancin' '65. Signed to Tree Publishing '67, wrote hits 'Ruthless' (Statler Brothers), 'D-I-V- O-R-C-E' (Tammy Wynette), 'Did You Ever' (Charlie Louvin & Melba Montgomery), 'Golden Ring' (George Jones & Wynette), 'He Stopped Loving Her Today' (Jones), last named song of the year '80 by ACM, CMA, Nashville Songwriters Association, also won a Grammy. He has also recorded for MGM '67-9 (country charts with 'I Know How To Do It', 'Girls In Country Music'), Elektra '79, RCA '81-5. Albums included Love Bomb '80 (Elektra), Hardpore Cornography '83 (RCA).
