BROOKER, Gary

(b 29 May '45, Southend, England) Singer, keyboards. Formerly with the Paramounts and Procul Harum; later part of Paul McCartney's Rockestra concept, appeared in all-star lineup at Hammersmith Odeon (London) in Concerts for Kampuchea '79. Solo LP that year No More Fear Of Flying prod. by George Martin, with mostly own songs (with former King Crimson lyricist Pete Sinfield); also covers of Murray Head's "Say It Ain't So Joe' and Mickey Jupp's "Switchboard Susan'. Still a soulful voice, but in post- punk era nobody cared. Lead Me To The Water did no better, despite musical help from George Harrison, Phil Collins, Albert Lee, Eric Clapton; followed by Echoes In The Night '85. Toured with Clapton '82.
