(b 29 April '54, Dallas TX). Former professional team roper and barrel racer on the rodeo circuit, then a country songwriter. Sang on the Austin club scene '75-7, at the time married to singer-songwriter Gary P. Nunn. Joined Rodney Crowell as back-up vocalist '78, moved to Nashville, wrote hits "Tennessee Rose' (Emmylou Harris), "Girls Like Me' (Tanya Tucker). Signed to Warners Bros. Records '81, scored chart-topping duet "Faking Love' with T.G. Sheppard '83, also duet "I Will Dance With You' with Johnny Cash, plus several solo hits. Formed duo, Brooks & Sharp with singer-songwriter Randy Sharp '93. Album I Will Dance With You '85 on WB.
