ALLEN, Jules Verne

(b 1 April 1883, Waxahachie, Texas; d 10 July 1945) One of the first singing cowboys, when they were real cowboys and songs were still folk songs. He worked as a cowboy from the Rio Grande to Montana 1893-1907; sang on radio in the 1920s and '30s ('Longhorn Luke' in San Antonio). Some tracks appeard on an out-of-print RCA Vintage series album called Authentic Cowboys and their Western Folksongs.
