KAHN, Roger Wolfe

(b 19 October 1907, Morristown NJ; d 12 July 1962, NYC) Saxophonist, bandleader, songwriter. The son of millionaire Otto Kahn, he once formed a band, paid members for several weeks and disbanded without playing a gig. The band known as the Million Dollar Band had a Victor contract, residencies at the NY Biltmore; its semi-hot style '25-32 featured variously such people as Joe Venuti, Miff Mole, Eddie Lang, Artie Shaw, Jack Teagarden, J. Dorsey, but later turned sweet. Still later he left music and turned to aviation, becoming a test pilot during WWII.
