KERSHAW, Nik

(b 1 March '58, Bristol, England) Vocalist, songwriter. Early work in local HM band Half Pint Hogg led him to apply to join Deep Purple '74; rejected, he moved to jazz-funk group Fusion, then solo deal. Human Racing '84 appealed both to critics and pre-pubescent UK pop audience, with hit singles "Wouldn't It Be Good', "I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', "Dancing Girls', title track; also Kershaw's "Bogart' (recalled Roxy Music's tribute '2HB' 10 years before). The Riddle '85 incl. imaginative "Don Quixote'; title track was also a hit. He appeared at Live Aid '85, at Royal Albert Hall benefit for Greenpeace early '86; toured USA with Paul Young; Eric Clapton incl. a Kershaw song in Behind The Sun '85. He had more to offer than most teen idols, but LP Radio Musicola '86 had disappointing sales. Wouldn't It Be Good '93 on Pickwick was a compilation.
