KORGIS, The

UK pop group formed '79 by James Warren (b 25 Aug. '51, Bristol) guitar, vocals; Andy Creswell-Davis (b 10 Aug. '49, Yatton, Somerset). Warren grew up in Bristol, joined group Dawn '68; Davis at Weston-Super-Mare Technical College, worked with groups Blue Crew, Strange Fruit, The Kynd; joined Davis in Stackridge (LPs Stackridge '71, Friendliness '72, Man In The Bowler Hat '73, Extravaganza '74, Mr Mick '76), remembered fondly as a cross between Beatles and Wurzels; provided such material as "Dora The Female Explorer', "Slark', "Do The Stanley', "Let There be Lids'; boasted fan club called The Rhubarb Thrashing Society; split '76. Warren and Davis formed Korgis with various friends incl. multi-instrumentalist Stuart Gordon, keyboardist Phil Harrison, both of Bath-based Short Wave Band. Single "If I Had You' no. 13 UK '79, followed by LP The Korgis '79 and melodic hit "Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime', no. 5 UK, no. 18 USA '80; by this time Davis had left. Second LP on Rialto Dumb Waiters featured four Davis songs, minor UK hit "If It's Alright With You Baby'; band fell apart. Warren concentrated on writing and studio work; Davis worked with Tears For fears, developed own material; with Warren as Korgis again '84, their single for Warren's Marvellous Music label was "True Life Confessions' '85.
