Excellent sideman/lead trumpet with Ben Pollock '31-4, Dorsey Brothers '34, Ray Noble and Glenn Miller '35; much radio work, also played with Bob Crosby, Tommy Dorsey, Jack Teagarden late '30s. Formed own band '40 with backing from Miller, had hits through the decade, many in top 10, biggest was "My Devotion' '42. Vocal group the Stardusters incl. June Hutton; Willie Smith and Dave Tough played in the band; arr. by Sonny Burke, Jimmy Mundy, Nelson Riddle. |
