UNIT 4+2

UK pop group of '60s: folk group Unit Four (lineup: Peter Moules, vocals, Tommy Moeller, Howard Lubin, David Meilke, all guitars and vocals) moved into pop '64 adding bass (Bob Garwood) and drums (Hugh Halliday). First shot "The Green Fields' scraped top 50, but '65 saw them hit no. 1 with "Concrete And Clay', written by Moeller with former member Brian Parker, who provided many of their lyrics. Rhythmic invention and drive carried it to no. 28 in USA; cover by Eddie Rambeau made no. 35 USA; Randy Edelman revived it more than 10 years later. Success was shortlived: after "You've Never Been In Love Like This Before' (no. 14) nothing else troubled the top 40; First Album '65 was also the last. Former Roulettes Bob Henrit (drums) and Russ Ballard (guitar and vocals) passed through before the end, later found greater success with Argent.
